During the early hours of Monday, March 2, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched several strikes in Lebanon against Hezbollah, the terrorist organization which is based in the country. The strikes were in response to Hezbollah’s rocket and drone attacks against northern Israel that had taken place during Sunday, the IDF wrote on X.
Among the Hezbollah members killed in the attack was Hussein Makled, the organization’s head of intelligence; he was killed in a strike in Beirut, Lebanon’s capital.
Makled’s predecessor had been killed during Israel’s large-scale decapitation operations against the group in September 2024.
Makled was responsible for “forming the intelligence picture using various intelligence collection tools to provide the Hezbollah terror organization with intelligence assessments regarding IDF troops and the State of Israel,” the IDF said.
“Hezbollah is operating on behalf of the Iranian regime, opening fire against the Israeli civilians, and bringing ruin to Lebanon. IDF troops have prepared for such a scenario as part of Operation ‘Roaring Lion’, and are prepared for an all-fronts scenario,” the IDF added.
“Operation Roaring Lion” is Israel’s name for the ongoing American-Israeli strikes against Iran, which eliminated Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei; Hezbollah’s attacks against Israel were in retaliation to Khamenei’s death.
The Israeli strikes targeted Hezbollah “command & control centers, launch sites, and senior terrorists,” an IDF spokesperson said.
Video footage also show alleged Israeli strikes against Hezbollah targets in Tyre, located in southern Lebanon and in unverified locations in the northern parts of the country.

Earlier on Monday, columns of civilians in cars could be seen fleeing southern Lebanon.
After a meeting with his cabinet, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said that Lebanon rejects any military actions launched from its territory “outside the framework of its legitimate institutions and affirmed that the decision of war and peace is exclusively in its hands.”
This “necessitates the immediate prohibition of all Hezbollah’s security and military activities as being outside the law, and obliging it to hand over its weapons to the Lebanese state,” he added.
He called on Lebanon’s military and security services to take immediate measures to implement the Lebanese government’s decision.
Hezbollah has been operating from Lebanon since 1982 often with the acquiescence of the Lebanese government.
Following IDF’s large-scale decapitation attacks against Hezbollah last year, the Lebanese government has been trying to reign in on the terrorist organization.
