When Delta Force’s Blackfeet Indian chief had a very unique highway encounter

While driving home from work one day, Delta’s Blackfeet Indian William “Chief” Carlson, found himself driving alongside a Caucasian man who was running naked along the highway towards Southern Pines. Being the concerned citizen and valiant soldier that he was, he elected to pull over, assess the immediate situation, and take what he deemed to be appropriate action.

His immediate impression, at face value, was that there was a white man in some rare form of distress, or perhaps disillusionment, sprinting for all his worth parallel to the highway. He surely must have been crying for help, otherwise he would probably not be executing his “plan” in such a high visibility location. Chief’s first idea was to at least halt the man from his dash so a further course of action could be implemented.

As he pulled his car over to the shoulder of the road to start his pursuit, he noted that some Military Police (MPs) were already trailing behind the naked man and were attempting to subdue him. Chief had a slight advantage on them and would likely be able to take down the man first, thereby lending a helping hand to the MPs.

Chief quickly descended on the man and tackled him to the ground. He then promptly turned custody of the man over to the MPs who were just then catching up to the pair.

“Thank you for your help, Master Sergeant! We have been tracking this guy’s moves through the woods and along the roads for nearly 30 minutes now. His wife reported that he was messing around with crank, lost his mind and just started going berserk – we’ll take it from here.”

Chief turned the man over to the MPs and resumed his drive home.

Yet, within minutes, the same naked man, having broken free from the grip of the MPs, was running for his life once again along the highway to Southern Pines. Again, Chief sprang from his car and subdued the naked white man, handing him over yet again to the same MPs. This time the MPs managed to retain the man long enough to get him to central lockup on Ft. Bragg.

The event quickly spread though the men of the squadron, and Chief was famous for his exploit. The next morning one of the guys greeted the Chief with:

“So, Chief… anything interesting happen last night?”

To which Chief replied with the soon-to-be-famous phrase: “Oh, you know.., just chasing whitey with a stick.”

And yet it happened…

By Almighty God and with honor,
