Video: The Navy’s F/A-XX may become the first 6th generation aircraft in the world

Aviation technology continues to advance and the U.S. military is always thinking about the next day to ensure that it retains precious air superiority in a future fight. As such, the Air Force and Navy have been developing their 6th generation stealth fighter jets.

The U.S. Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance Fighter (NGAD), meant to be America’s first 6th generation air superiority platform, is now staring down the barrel of a strategic pause and significant redesign aimed at curbing the program’s high sticker price. Yet, that isn’t stopping the Navy from moving at full steam ahead with its new stealth fighter program.

The Navy is working on the F/A-XX program to equip its carrier-based squadrons with a 6th generation stealth fighter. And there’s now a solid chance that the Navy may beat the Air Force to the punch and be the first military service on the planet to field a 6th-generation fighter.

“So lets talk about the Navy’s plan to field what could be the world’s first 6th generation fighter. The capabilities it would need to bring to bear and whether or not the Navy could emerge as the new dominate force in the world’s skies,” Alex Hollings, Sandboxx News’ editor-in-chief and host of AirPower, said in a recent video.
