Hooah!! Welcome back for your Week Nine update. This is it—the moment your Trainee has been building toward since the day they arrived at Fort Sill! This week, they face the ultimate test in Army Basic Combat Training: The Forge! The Forge is a legendary 96-hour Field Training Exercise (FTX) that challenges everything they have learned—physically, mentally, and emotionally. It’s where all the skills, discipline, and toughness they’ve developed are put into action under the most demanding conditions yet. This grueling event is a true rite of passage, and by the end of it, your Trainee will not just feel like a Soldier—they will be one.

Just a reminder, if you are attending next week’s graduation you will need a visitor’s pass to get on Fort Benning. If you haven’t registered for your pass to visit Fort Benning, please do so now. All visitors are required to obtain a visitor pass to access the post.

Fort Leonard Wood | Engineer OSUT | Week 9

In Week Nine of Army Engineer OSUT, Trainees face the ultimate challenge: “The Forge,” a 96-hour Field Training Exercise (FTX) that tests everything they’ve learned. During this grueling event, Trainees patrol, engage in combat scenarios, complete battle drills, and cover nearly 30 miles while facing enemy threats and logistical challenges. Their physical and mental endurance is pushed to the limit as they perform tasks like the Night Infiltration Course, hand-to-hand combat, and a 10-mile road march. Upon completing the Forge, Trainees participate in a Soldier Ceremony, marking their official transition to U.S. Army Soldiers.

Great Lakes | Week 9

Week nine of training is known as Battle Stations week, one of the greatest challenges of boot camp. If all goes well, they may earn a phone call home between the classes and physical training this week includes.

Fort Jackson | Week 9

For the majority of week nine your Soldier will spend their time servicing their weapons and equipment they will not be taking to AIT with them. They will be cleaning things like their helmet, canteen, weapon, and any other equipment that was used during their BCT experience.
