The ongoing wildfires in California triggered a state emergency. Firefighters were having trouble dealing with the unprecedented blaze that burnt hundreds of homes in Los Angeles.

As with any natural emergency, the U.S. military contributed assets to help state, city, and local authorities combat the inferno.

“As more than 23,000 acres of the Los Angeles area continues to burn, U.S. Northern Command, also known as NORTHCOM, has deployed eight C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft equipped with modular air fire fighting systems to help contain this blaze,” Alex Hollings, Sandboxx New’s Editor-in-Chief and host of AirPower on YouTube, said in his video.

California National Guard units were also mobilized by state officials to help combat the wildfires.

The specially equipped C-130 aircraft operated from more than five states and belong to several different squadrons.

Any veterans impacted by the wildfires in Los Angeles can receive help by contacting the VA at: 1-800-MyVA411 (1-800-698-2411).

U.S. Northern Command activated three Wyoming Air National Guard C-130s equipped with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS) and associated personnel to assist firefighting efforts in California. MAFFS, developed by the U.S. Forest Service, are portable fire-retardant delivery systems that convert C-130s into airtankers, capable of releasing up to 3,000 gallons of retardant in under five seconds.
