Army Emergency Relief: Soldiers Helping Soldiers Since 1942!

Since 1942, Army Emergency Relief has provided over $2 billion in assistance to more than 4 million Soldiers and Families, offering help with everything from rent and utilities to emergency travel and scholarships. When one Soldier struggles, AER ensures no one stands alone."

When life throws the unexpected your way, Army Emergency Relief (AER) is here to step in with unwavering support. Established during World War II, AER is a private, nonprofit organization with one powerful mission: to provide emergency financial assistance to Soldiers and their Families—right when they need it most. From help with rent and utilities to emergency travel, vehicle repairs, and beyond, AER stands ready to assist. But it doesn’t stop there—AER also supports Surviving Spouses and orphans of Soldiers and funds undergraduate scholarships for the Spouses and Children of both Active Duty and Retired Soldiers. Over 4 million Soldiers helped. More than $2 billion in assistance given. That’s the legacy of AER—and it’s still growing strong!

Who’s Eligible?

You may qualify for AER assistance if you are an Active Duty Soldier or eligible Family member, an Army Reserve or National Guard Soldier activated under Title 10 for 30+ days (and dependents), a Retired Soldier (for longevity, medical, or age 60 for Reserve) and your dependents, or a Surviving Spouse or child of a Soldier who died while on active duty or in retirement (and has not remarried).

What Can AER Help With?

Every request is treated individually, but here are some common needs AER supports: emergency travel, mortgage, rent, deposits, utilities, food, vehicle repair, temporary lodging or disaster evacuation, funeral expenses, basic furniture and appliances, PCS-related costs, childcare and car seats, dental care for dependents, home repair, spouse licensure, passport fees, and special needs equipment.

How to Apply

Getting support is easier than you think! Talk to your Chain of Command—they can approve up to $2,000 in immediate aid through the Quick Assist Program. Visit your local AER Officer—most Army posts have them on-site and ready to help. Call the American Red Cross if you’re more than 50 miles from an Army installation and need assistance.

This Is Just the Beginning!

AER offers even more programs designed to support your financial stability and family readiness. To explore everything AER provides—or to make a donation and support this life-changing mission—visit www.armyemergencyrelief.org. Because when one Soldier struggles, we all step in. That’s the Army way. That’s AER.

I’ll be back next week with more information and tips. Until then, Hooah!
