Ship Week: Get Excited!

Ship Week is here—the final countdown before your Future Soldier begins their Army journey—and it’s a week worth celebrating as much as it is preparing. Between the travel plans, bag checks, and emotional goodbyes, make space for pride, connection, and excitement. Remind them how far they’ve come, reassure them that they don’t need to know it all yet, and carve out intentional moments together—a quiet walk, a phone-free meal, or a heartfelt letter they can carry with them. This week isn’t just about saying goodbye; it’s about honoring their courage, embracing the excitement of what’s ahead, and sending them off with more pride than fear. They’re not just leaving—they’re launching into who they’re meant to become.

It’s here—Ship Week. The final stretch before your Future Soldier officially begins their journey. Whether it’s felt like months or minutes since they enlisted, this is the week everything becomes real. And while there may be nerves, emotion, and unanswered questions, this is also a week worth celebrating.

Because the truth is: they did it. And so did you.

Here’s how to make the most of Ship Week with confidence, pride, and a little excitement.

Let Yourself Feel Proud—Out Loud

There’s a lot to take in: goodbyes to plan, bags to double-check, emotions to manage. But in the middle of it all, take a moment to say it out loud: “I’m proud of you.”

Your Soldier may be feeling the weight of what’s coming. Your steady pride is the reminder they need that they’re not doing this alone. Write it. Say it. Frame it. Make sure they hear it—clearly and often.

Help Them Focus on the Milestone, Not the Uncertainty

They might be wondering:

  • Will I measure up?
  • What if I miss home too much?
  • What if I’m not ready?

Reframe those questions. Remind them: “You’re not supposed to be finished—you’re supposed to be starting.

This week isn’t about knowing it all. It’s about showing up—and trusting they’ll grow into the rest.

Make Time for Real Connection

Ship Week is a blur. Between travel coordination, last-minute errands, and emotional goodbyes, it’s easy to lose moments to logistics. Simple gestures go a long way when memories are about to carry more weight.

Try to carve out intentional time, even if it’s short:

  • A quiet walk
  • A phone-free meal
  • A “one more thing I want you to know” letter
  • A shared playlist, memory, or photo book

Celebrate Their Courage

Enlisting is a choice many talk about, but few actually make. This week marks the moment they move from intention to action. Help them see what this moment really is:

  • A declaration of purpose
  • A break from comfort
  • A decision to serve, grow, and lead

They might be too focused on what’s ahead to realize how far they’ve already come. Remind them.

Embrace the Excitement—Yes, Really

It’s okay to feel emotional. It’s okay to cry. But it’s also okay to be excited. They’re about to start something life-changing. And you get to be the first one who believed in them enough to send them off with more pride than fear.

Make space for that feeling. Celebrate it. Honor it.

Last Call

Ship Week isn’t just an ending—it’s a launch. Your Future Soldier is stepping into one of the most challenging, transformative experiences of their life. And you? You’re doing exactly what they need—standing tall beside them, steady and proud.

Let go with love. Cheer them on with confidence. And get excited. Because this week isn’t about what they’re leaving behind. It’s about who they’re about to become.

Together, we got this! I will be back next week with another update for you.

Hooah!
