MOUT LANES
“Urban PatrollingÂ
Week 25 at TBS focuses on applying the classroom training from the previous week, with an emphasis on mastering the challenges of urban combat. Marines will participate in a series of comprehensive training sessions aimed at preparing them for Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT). These sessions will highlight the importance of tactical maneuvers, effective decision-making, and strong leadership in the complex environment of urban warfare.
Written Exam V
The week begins with Marines taking Written Exam V, a comprehensive evaluation of the knowledge and skills they’ve developed throughout their training. This exam covers critical topics such as tactical planning, leadership principles, and combat operations, ensuring Marines are prepared to apply what they have learned in the field. The results of this assessment help identify areas where Marines may need additional focus as they progress in their training.

MOUT Training – Lanes and Practical Application
Following the exam, Marines transition into Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) training. This phase starts with lanes and practical application exercises, where Marines navigate through structured scenarios that simulate urban combat environments. These exercises include tasks such as room clearing, building entry, and securing urban structures while under simulated enemy fire. Marines practice maintaining communication, coordinating movements, and adapting to rapidly changing situations. This phase provides a controlled environment for Marines to build individual proficiency and teamwork in preparation for more complex operations.
Squad-Size Urban Patrols in a MOUT Environment
Later in the week, the training scales up as Marines conduct squad-size urban patrols in a realistic MOUT environment. The training takes place in a fabricated town, complete with buildings, streets, and alleys designed to mimic real-world urban settings. These patrols emphasize mission planning, situational awareness, and decision-making at the squad level. Marines will encounter simulated civilians, hostile forces, and environmental challenges, requiring them to think critically and respond effectively. This immersive training bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing Marines for the complexities of urban warfare.
Platoon-Level Combat Operations
To conclude the week, Marines shift to platoon-level combat operations, integrating the skills developed during squad-level training into larger, coordinated exercises. These operations involve complex scenarios requiring advanced leadership, communication, and tactical execution. Marines will practice synchronizing movements, managing resources, and executing strategic objectives as a unified platoon. This training reinforces the importance of cohesive leadership and teamwork in achieving mission success.
I’ll see you next week with more insights and stories as your Marine continues with more urban operations.
