“Grad Week”
Honoring History with the Montford Point Challenge
This week at OCS, Lima Company’s PLC seniors dive headfirst into participating in the Montford Point Challenge. This 2.91-mile course honors the legacy of the Montford Point Marines, the first 20,000 African-Americans to earn the title Marine between 1942-1949. Their bravery and critical role in supplying ammunition, supplies, and casualty evacuation to the front lines are reflected in the challenge’s design.

A Tribute Through Teamwork:
- Ammunition and stretcher carries simulate the vital contributions of the Montford Point Marines.
- Candidates are randomly assigned to squads of 15-20, fostering diversity and the importance of teamwork in critical situations.
- The fastest squad is declared the winner, but the true victory lies in honoring the legacy of these pioneering Marines.
Reflection, Rejuvenation, and Rigorous Training for Lima Company Seniors
Following their demanding evaluations, Lima Company Seniors will embark on strategic preparation.
- Turning the Page: Mid-week gear turn-in, signifying the completion of a challenging phase.
- A Look Back, A Step Forward: A visit to the Marine Corps Museum (a must-see for any Quantico visitor!) isn’t just a break; it’s an opportunity to reflect on the Corps’ rich history and heritage – the legacy they’re striving to become a part of.

Building Esprit de Corps with the Battalion Commander’s Motivational Run
The week at OCS concludes with a tradition that fosters unit cohesion – the Battalion Commander’s Motivational Run. India Company’s PLC Seniors lace up their go-fasters and hit the pavement alongside their training company staff.
More Than Just a Run:
- This run isn’t just about physical fitness; it’s a chance to capitalize on the Esprit De Corps, teamwork, and camaraderie that have grown throughout the training cycle.
- Running shoulder-to-shoulder with their instructors strengthens the bond between candidates and staff.
- This shared experience builds a sense of unity and purpose that will propel them forward in the challenges to come.
This week culminates in a celebration of accomplishment with Family Day, which is normally on Friday, a well-deserved opportunity for India Company’s PLC Seniors to connect with loved ones and share the pride of their journey so far. The unwavering support of their families is a constant fuel for their drive to become Marines. Concluding the week with the long-anticipated graduation and commissioning ceremony normally conducted on Saturday for PLC Sr’s.
Thanks for reading along over the last six weeks. It has been an honor to be part of this journey with you. Congratulations to you and your Marine!
Semper Fidelis,
