Learn the Soldier’s Creed Together—A Powerful Way to Connect With Your New Army Soldier

Learning the Soldier’s Creed with your Future Soldier isn’t just about memorizing words—it’s about sharing their values, speaking their language, and showing you’re walking this journey with them every step of the way

So your loved one just joined the Army—Hooah! They’re on a mission to become something greater than themselves, and you might be wondering how you can stay connected and supportive during this intense journey. Here’s one exciting, meaningful, and surprisingly fun way: learn the Soldier’s Creed together. This isn’t just memorizing lines—it’s about embracing the values, mindset, and warrior spirit your Soldier is stepping into. And when you learn it alongside them, you’re not just cheering from the sidelines—you’re walking beside them on their path.

What Is the Soldier’s Creed?

The Soldier’s Creed is a powerful statement of identity and purpose. Every new Soldier learns it during Basic Training and repeats it over and over until it becomes second nature. It’s more than words—it’s a promise. It declares loyalty, discipline, courage, and the unwavering commitment to never quit, never accept defeat, and never leave a fallen comrade. Chills, right?

Here’s the full version:

The Soldier’s Creed
I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough,
trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.
I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

Why Learn It With Your Soldier?

Learning the Creed together builds connection because you’re literally speaking the same words they’re carrying into the field. It shows support in a way that’s personal and powerful—imagine their face when you say, “I’ve been practicing the Soldier’s Creed with you in mind.” And it gives you strength, too. These words aren’t just for Soldiers—they’re for anyone who wants to stand strong in the face of adversity. Whether you’re a parent, partner, sibling, or friend, knowing the Creed is like wearing a badge of your own commitment.

How to Learn It (and Make It Fun!)

Break it down line by line and practice a few lines each day. Recite them aloud, write them on sticky notes, and make them your daily mantra. Record yourself reading it and challenge your Soldier to do the same when they can—it’s a fun way to track progress together. Turn it into a family game with flashcards or quizzes so everyone can join in. Display it proudly on your fridge, bathroom mirror, or near the front door to keep it top of mind. Include lines from the Creed in your letters so your Soldier knows you’re reciting it alongside them.

Make It a Tradition

Learning the Soldier’s Creed is more than memorization—it’s about sharing a mindset of courage, discipline, and service. Every time you recite it, you’re saying, “I believe in you. I’m proud of you. And I’m walking this path with you.” Print it, speak it, and live it. Then say it loud and proud: “I am an American Soldier.” Even if you never wear the uniform, you’re part of the mission now.

I’ll be back with more tips and help next week. Until then, Hooah!
