Sandboxx was founded by veterans

Sandboxx was co-founded by Marine veterans Sam Meek and Major General Ray L. Smith with a simple goal in mind: to make it easier to get mail to service members while they’re in training or deployed overseas. Having served on multiple deployments, Sam knew firsthand how meaningful a note from home could be, and as a senior leaner with seemingly countless deployments under his belt, General Smith was also well aware of just how important morale is to mission accomplishment.

What began as a good idea soon became a team of dedicated professionals who were as committed to building a successful company as they were to bringing real value to the military community Sam and General Smith hailed from. Before long, Sandboxx was printing hundreds of letters from family members and supporters each day and delivering them to service members overnight. Recruits that used to hear from their parents once a week were suddenly getting more letters more frequently and others took notice. Hundreds of letters turned into thousands, and then even to tens of thousands.

Today, Sandboxx has delivered over seven million letters to service members in training or deployed around the world.

As the letters business grew in popularity, Sam and the team at Sandboxx began looking for other ways they could support service members and their loved ones. From finding better deals on airfare and more for families traveling to and from basic training graduations to publishing military-centric news and media content free of the sensationalism and partisan politics so pervasive in today’s world, Sandboxx has always been about the service member first.

As Sam himself so often puts it, at Sandboxx, the goal is to “do well by doing good.”

Many of our teammates served in the U.S. military, are married to someone who served, or both — but don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with combat boots.
