We here at Sandboxx News are thankful for a lot of things, but most of all, we’re thankful for the incredible men and women serving in our nation’s Armed Forces. In honor of that, here’s a Thanksgiving toast to them all, penned by our favorite Navy SEAL, Frumentarius.
To the sand and salt, the water frigid,
to the men left and right, shaking along in a nightmare dance,
To the air, dry and scorched, the smell of smoke,
to the family left far behind, their wonder and worry,
to fire-conquering brothers and sisters,
awaiting the calling bell at our one communal table,
I offer a toast, glass raised high, foam sliding, eyes wet.
To you, thanks, for brother and sisterhood,
to you, gratitude, for nights long and dark, filed with glory’s work,
for us, joy, in lives well-lived and weighty,
filled with exploit, abundant in peril, rich with magnitude,
for us, solitude, work often ignored,
best left unremarked on, and consigned to the dark recesses.
You give yourself, over to that collective purpose.
To all in jeopardy’s sights, near or far,
to those who carry that great weight, of a people reliant,
to all who stand sentry, alone with self,
ready to give all for an idea, a task, a comrade,
stand with back straight, secure in this we know,
that we behind you, in that secure and sheltering shadow,
We all give thanks, with glass raised high, foam sliding, eyes wet.
